Hello 2022!
As we all know, social media marketing trends constantly change. For social marketers, learning new information and staying up to date with current trends is essential to build a successful social strategy, drive traffic to websites & boost sales.
So, let’s look at some of the social media trends to watch out for in 2022.
1. Online communities are on the rise – with the help of creators
As social media shifts away from celebrities and mega-influencers, online communities are being created, as people look up to more authentic, small-scale creators. Brands who partner wisely with such creators are connecting with new audiences, gaining their trust & cultural capital. As these communities are being built, they present a big opportunity, particularly to smaller brands. You no longer need to create a niche community from nothing – you can simply find the community that your brand fits into & show up for them, as they will for you. For example, due to TikTok’s algorithm allowing creators to produce viral content without necessarily having to spend money on ads, it is much easier to reach an audience organically.
2. Marketers get creative with social ads
We can expect marketers to spend more on social ads in 2022. However, to stand out from competitors they will have to work harder to create ads that mirror the unique experience that each social network has to offer. Marketing budgets are tightening for a wide range of organisations – 51.4% of the 18,100 marketers surveyed by Hootsuite. However, they have stated that they plan on increasing their paid social ad spend in the new year. Although Facebook (62%) and Instagram (49%) were ranked as the most effective platforms for ads, the biggest jumps in perceived effectiveness belong to TikTok, Pinterest, and Snapchat.
3. Social becomes the heart of the post-pandemic shopping experience
With the pandemic seeing high-street retailers such as Debenhams close their doors, and millions of people in lockdown around the world beginning to shop online — social commerce quickly became the new normal. And it isn’t going anywhere in 2022. Small businesses have relied on their social media feeds, as their shop fronts to continue to serve, generate profits & reach new audiences. Whereas larger companies had to re-evaluate how they were going to interact with their consumers. The younger generation will be turning to social media to research brands, more than search engines. A Hootsuite survey has shown that 53.2% of global internet users aged 16-24 use social channels as their primary source of information when researching brands. So to put it shortly, social is the place to be to grow your brand this year.
