What did you study at University?
I studied fashion and brand promotion with photography at UCLAN University, and after 4 years of amazing experiences (and many sleepless nights), I finished my course with a 1st class honours degree. I was also awarded the Fashion promotion Lancashire Arts Festival Award for my final major project and received the Student Entrepreneurship Award.
Tell us about yourself and your experience in the working world.
My working world began as work experience in my year out of University. My roles ranged from Marketing Assistant at River Islands Head Office to Graphic Design Intern at White Stuff. After finishing my degree, I began work at a digital agency in Lymm. Since then, I have worked as a freelancer, working with some great clients on website design, social media content creation and strategy, photography, videography and logo design. I have also worked at a tech start-up as Head of Creative, where my role included digital and print design, photography videography, animation, web design and anything else creative the company required!
What is your role in the real5 digital team?
My role at real5 Digital will be as a content creator. This means I will be taking photos, making videos, creating graphics and ultimately, creating content that will help our clients stand out. I will be utilising the experience I have gained over the past 6 years to make sure the content visually looks great and aligns with the clients’ goals.
Why are you interested in Digital Marketing and Social Media?
I find the power of social media fascinating. Without it, so many businesses wouldn’t exist, and that’s why I think it’s important to know how to stand out as a business online. It’s always fun thinking of new ways to promote a brand and how we can achieve this through digital marketing and social media.
What are you most excited about in this role?
I’m excited to get creative and work with the rest of the team to create some cool content for our clients. Everyone in real5 brings something to the table, and so collaboratively, I believe we can create some amazing work. We like to keep up with trends and brainstorm ideas together, and that’s how we come up with fun new ideas on what content we’ll create.
What advice for someone looking for a career in Digital Marketing?
If you’re looking for a career in digital marketing I would keep note of any good marketing you see; it will definitely come in handy when you need inspiration in the future. Another suggestion is to stay up-to-date with the marketing world and check out some great spaces like www.thedrum.com and www.contagious.com. And also, give it a go yourself. Set up a business page on different social channels. Start a brand and experiment with it. I created GeeArte Makes as a fun little side project, and because of social media, I now run macrame workshops all over Cheshire. I learnt so much from just having a play, doing some paid ads, creating a campaign plan and designing/creating content. It was my way of putting my ideas to practise and I couldn’t recommend giving it a go yourself enough.
P.s I love reading, so I just wanted to list some of my all-time favourite books:
- Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown
- Do What You Love, Love What You Do: The Empowering Secrets to Turn Your Passion into Profit by Holly Tucker
- 59 Seconds: Think a little, change a lot by Richard Wiseman
- Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod
- Break the Mould by Tim Roberts
