Yesterday we launched our first of our digital workshops and this week’s topic was on creating a rockstar marketing strategy online!
Whether you came along or you missed it here’s a copy of the presentation we went through: View Now
So let’s get into it, what is content marketing and how can you use it to up your game online?
Content marketing is a marketing approach focused on creating and sharing valuable and relevant content online to attract, engage, and convert your audience.
Traditional content marketing has been around for thousands of years! In 1732 Benjamin Franklin published his first book to promote his new printing business.
More examples of brands that do content marketing well:
BirchBox – an online subscription business that sends beauty products to its customers each month. They use a good mix of educational content, such as blogs and videos including makeup tips, interviews, and lifestyle advice.
CocaCola – They create emotive stories you can relate to rather than stories about the brand.
Back to basics – At this stage, you’re answering the questions that every content marketer should be able to answer
- “Who am I creating this content for?
- “Why am I creating it?”
- “How will I share it?”
- “What does success look like to me?”
Audience Avatar – Get really specific about your audience by creating your perfect audience avatar. Not just age, gender, and location. Think about what their struggles are and the social platforms they hand out on!
Analyse competitors – Is there anyone out there doing similar or the same thing that you are? What type of content do they share and which posts do the best?
Optimise old content – Take a look at what content you already have. Now that you have narrowed down your audience you can make tweaks or repurpose.
Create new content – You should be full of ideas now! Set time aside each week/month to create new content. You can use this new content to Attract, Engage, and Convert your customers.
Creating new content is only half of the challenge! Now you need to share it out to your audience via:
- Social Media
- Email Marketing
- SEO marketing
- Your network
Social Interactions – make sure you are engaging with your audience and commenting back. This includes blog comments!
Reviews – Leave reviews for other businesses and don’t be shy to ask for your own reviews. You can use incentives too such as prizes or discount codes.
Google Analytics – Track who is visiting your website so that you are aware of the people engaging with your site. This includes the pages they view and the time they spend on your site too!
People often spend time creating content and pushing it out then wonder why they aren’t getting any conversions. Make sure you include a call to action (CTAs) in the blogs, graphics, and videos you are pushing out. CTAs include:
- Contact details
- Enquiry forms
- Link to website/landing pages
- Action e.g. email, comment below, share your thoughts
I know it seems like there is not enough time in the day! But here’s a nice way to plan your new content marketing strategy…
Set Yearly Intensions – This is a nice way to set the intention for the year. What do you intend to achieve in a year’s time? This could be as simple as “I want to form genuine connections with my customers online.”
Write Down Quarterly Goals – Make these realistic and make sure you follow-up on them, even if you don’t achieve them, you can write down what you did achieve at the end of the quarter and it will make you realise what you need to tweak moving forward.
Create Weekly/Monthly Content – Whether it’s videos, podcasts, blogs, articles, stories, create a plan that you know you can stick to.
Complete Daily Tasks – There are tools out there to help with this – we recommend keeping it simple with Trello!
We hope you found our blog useful and that you feel confident in your ability to create a rockstar content marketing strategy!
