Now, we’re sure you’ve heard this fantastic song in movies like Grown Ups or Shrek.. and it goes like… “If you like Piña Coladas and getting caught in the rain”.
But did you know that the genius behind it, Rupert Holmes, was a songwriter from Northwich?
Hold on to your Pineapples, because our client, Visit Northwich, hosts an annual Pina Colada Festival in honour of Rupert!
In February 2021, a local Northwich resident discovered that Rupert Holmes, the writer and singer of the world-famous Piña Colada song, was actually born in Northwich. Can you believe it?
Holmes, whose real name is David Goldstein, grew up in Northwich back in 1947, his family moved to America when he was just a kid, where his father, Leonard, served as a US Army Warrant Officer and bandleader.
Now here’s the cherry on top – Northwich has fully embraced its fame by starting an annual Pina Colada celebration. And guess what? You’re invited!
Mark your calendars because the Northwich Pina Colada Festival is happening on August 19th, 2023.
Last year we had a day full of awesome activities, from live music to old school street games even some fabulous music and dancing parades!
And wait for it… Gina got to meet Mr. Colada himself! How cool is that?
We couldn’t be more excited to attend this year’s event. It’s going to be epic!
